Japanese panel blinds are being made in curtain fabrics using tailoring and dressmaking skills- and pelmets are revived!
Japanese panel blinds suit contemporary rooms, and for a touch of luxury you can have ‘soft’ fabrics that are displayed better than if made up as curtains. Ever since panel blinds appeared in the UK, firms have sought ways of employing curtain fabrics- 8 years ago we tried laminating (the fabric curled) we tried frames (giving a ‘hard’ finish) and a hundred different ways of hanging soft panels. Using artistic skills and cutting by hand, the problem was solved and now the handmade panels and headrails are sent all over the country and occasionally abroad.
Beautiful silks, linens and manmade fibre fabrics are employed, frequently with simple pelmets to help frame a window.
Although panels are the ultimate in window fashions, not only the young want them- many of our older customers are quick to spot the potential in ease of operation, exceptional insulation and their simple beauty. Some have had us make them from much-loved curtains!
